How to Dispose of Upholstered Furniture

Upholstered Furniture disposal

As a skip hire company, we understand the importance of proper waste disposal. Furniture, especially upholstered pieces, can be quite challenging to dispose of responsibly. To help our customers and the environment, we’ve put together this guide on how to dispose of upholstered furniture in an eco-friendly manner.

We Dispose Of Upholstered Furniture

As your local licensed waste management company, we are always keeping up to date with the environmental regulations. A change that has happened this year is how we deal with Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The change in regulation means we have had to invest and alter our collection, storage, and disposal operations.

Because of this, domestic upholstered furniture needs to be kept separate in our process. If undamaged we will still take a small amount in our mixed skips, however, large amounts or damaged items will need a separate collection.

Please note this is not something that we are only doing, this new regulation will apply to every disposal company with regard to upholstered furniture. We are only hoping that people will follow this new practice and we do not see an increase in fly tipping of such furniture.

Other Ways To Dispose Of Furniture

  • Donate or sell

Before considering disposal, you may see if your upholstered furniture is still in usable condition. Many charities and second-hand stores are more than happy to accept furniture donations, as long as they’re in good shape. Selling your furniture online through websites like eBay, GumTree, or Facebook Marketplace can also be a viable option.

  • Repair or reupholster

If your furniture has seen better days but still has a solid frame, consider repairing or reupholstering it. This is not only an environmentally friendly option but can also save you money in the long run. Local upholstery shops can often provide quotes and help you choose new fabric, giving your furniture a fresh, updated look.
